Take a short quiz

Dig deeply

Before you move on...

Dig deep into the Acton Model

One of the prerequisites for moving forward is doing some serious research so you understand the difference between Acton Academy and a traditional school, so please take all the time you need in this step to show you have the grit, drive, and vision to launch your own learner-driven community.

Step 2: Dig Deeply

Small Questionnaire

The Acton Student Driven Learning Community will be governed by you and your studio-mates, so you will be required to make difficult decisions about self-governance. Prepare to record a two minute video taking a stand on a difficult ethical dilemma and defending your decision.

Please experiment with using an Iphone or other video recording device to make and post a two minute video.

Ethical Dilemma

Imagine you are required to draft a covenant governing alcohol and drug use at the new high school. Which of the following principles would you suggest and why?

  1. As long as you avoid alcohol and drugs while on campus, what you do in your own time is your own business;
  2. As long as you avoid alcohol and drugs during school times and are 100% honest with your parents and friends and do not abuse substances, you should be free to make your own choices.
  3. Any use of alcohol or drugs at any time is illegal and reflects on the entire community, and should result in serious consequences, including being asked to leave the community”.

Please record a 2 minute video taking a firm stand and defending your position as if you were a member of Acton’s governing Council.

Please note that the purpose of this question is to test your capacity for self governance and logic, so there is no “right answer” to this question. Upload your video to Youtube, selecting unlisted as the privacy setting. Then, share the link to your video here.
