Ethical Dilemma
You and your studio-mates will be largely responsible for governing yourselves, which requires a great deal of trust. Please review the Contract of Promises created by the middle school class.
Imagine you are required to draft a covenant governing alcohol and drug use at the new high school. Which of the following principles would you suggest and why?
- As long as you avoid alcohol and drugs while on campus, what you do in your own time is your own business;
- As long as you avoid alcohol and drugs during school times and are 100% honest with your parents and friends and do not abuse substances, you should be free to make your own choices.
- Any use of alcohol or drugs at any time is illegal and reflects on the entire community, and should result in serious consequences, including being asked to leave the community”.
Submit a two minute video within the next two hours taking a firm stand and defending your position as if you were a member of Acton’s governing Council. Please note that the purpose of this question is to test your capacity for self governance and logic, so there is no “right answer” to this question.
